Safe Rhode Island Strategic Planning

Violence Prevention Strategic Planning Process

Purpose of Internal Assessment & Strategic Planning

The first step in the strategic planning process is an internal assessment survey to be conducted within the health department. Survey questions ask about resources that exist within the health department that either directly or indirectly impact on violence or its risk factors, among Rhode Islanders of all ages. The results of this internal assessment will be used to: 1) Show our partners in the community and in other state agencies the resources the Department of Health has to offer which may assist in their violence prevention efforts and 2) To ask these partners what other services or resources would help them in their violence prevention efforts. Our ultimate goal, with input from our partners, is to use our resources to fill a defined niche and a unique role within the violence prevention community. This process will ultimately make the health department more visible, more accessible, and clearer in its role to help prevent violence in Rhode Island and will thereby improve the health of the community.
