In Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General, former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher has noted "…the mouth reflects general health and well-being." It is evident that poor oral health has a negative affect on an individual’s ability to grow, learn, and enjoy life to the fullest. The Oral Health Program of the Rhode Island Department of Health, working with community leaders, the legislature, and the private, the public, and the not-for-profit sectors, has a mission to improve the oral health of all Rhode Islanders.
