Appropriately known as the "Ocean State," Rhode Island has more than four hundred miles of pristine coastline featuring one hundred public and private beaches. Because the state is so small and housing so affordable, it's possible to live close to the water and work just about everywhere in the state with no more than a 25 minute drive to work. In fact, the average commute to work in Rhode Island is only 15 minutes. Providence, the capitol city, is located in the middle of the highest concentration of colleges and universities in the United States, including Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. The arts thrive in Rhode Island, with acclaimed theaters, music, and museums.
