Additional Resources

History and Statistics:

While the RI Women’s Cancer Screening Program was first launched in 1995, funding nationally for the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program began in 1990 by CDC Title XV funds. As a result of screening services provided by the RI program, the Women’s Cancer Screening Program has diagnosed over 160 Breast Cancers and over 20 Cervical Cancers.

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000 gives states the option to provide Medicaid to eligible women who were screened for and found to have breast or cervical cancer, including precancerous conditions.

For reports on Rhode Island Cancer Statistics, please visit the RI Cancer Registry. The CDC also has Cancer Burden Data Fact Sheets for Rhode Island. Cancer Data is a web page devoted to providing links to national and international cancer data sources.
